Great Rare Benin Ivory Royal Trumpet
estimated 16-18 Century
Region: Benin
Size: 20”
Price: $1250 + $20 shipping

A super large Royal Ivory Benin trumpet of great form at the zenith of the eary classic period.  Ivory horns were used at high ceremonial functions for the Oba or King, and blown in unison by his attendants at royal functions.  This particular horn is about as fine as any of the type of this very early period.  It is extensively carved at the large end in royal "snake" and other motifs, and the long arched tusk is carved in a gentle sloping form. This old royal ivory horn has a superb natural deep amber color from use and age.  Large in size at 20 " as the standard size is commonly 14 1/2”. Through  the ages, the  rear rim has sustained a missing chip not noticeable when viewed from the front.
