The Mangbetu and Zande  used harps  during court ceremonies and are a typical example of a “prestige object”.  This harp has 4 strings, pulled between the resonator and the neck.  It is made of hide, wood, copper wire and copper studding. The curved arm is made into a female figure with a high crown. This is the “real thing”.  It has unmistakable signs of use and wear.
