This is a magnificent mask, known as a 'beauty' mask  representing the spirit of a young girl and is danced during a maiden spirit masquerade.  The triple crested coiffure is a naturalistic  representation  of  hairstyles actually worn by young girls in the area.  The mouth is smiling, with teeth showing, and there is raised keloid scarification called “uli” beauty tattoos in front of ears. The face is whitened with kaolin pigment. The mask is in excellent condition.
